It’s well-known that an opioid epidemic exists throughout America, and that there is a need to better understand the epidemic through more comprehensive data. According to the CDC, in 2017 opioids accounted for 67.8% of all drug overdose deaths in the United States, a total of 47,600 opioid-related drug overdose deaths. Through the Southeastern Coastal Center for Agricultural Health and Safety, Dr. Heidi Radunovich is researching how opioid usage is impacting agricultural industries, including functioning of owners, personnel, and their families.

She will also discuss challenges with addiction and treatment, as well as helpful resources.
